Human osteoarthritis pathogenesis and progression is poorly understood and hampered by the lack of models of a synovial joint in vitro. Developing a joint in vitro would enable us to better identify the key changes that drive osteoarthritis and help us develop better endpoints for disease monitoring and targets to test in vivo for potential disease modifying agents. Having limited experience in the field joining the network will help me develop key collaborations with experts in the field of tissue engineering in order to drive my project of developing a bone-cartilage tissue in vitro forward.
